Catechumenate and Adult & Inquirers Classes

Two new classes are starting this month at our mission parish. One will be for catechumens – those who are not yet Orthodox. The other will be for those who are already Orthodox, as well as for inquirers into Orthodoxy.

1. The catechumenate classes will be connected with Great Vespers on Saturdays. It will be only for those who wish to become Orthodox. The length will be 6-8 weeks, and will be led by Deacon Simeon Spencer.

2. The adult and inquirers classes will be connected with Daily Vespers on Wednesdays. These are for those who are already Orthodox or are inquiring about Orthodoxy. Classes will be during the Fall Semester and will end around the middle of December. These classes will be led by Subdeacon Adrian Nedelcut.

If you are a catechumen, please do not ask to attend the Wednesday class. If you are already Orthodox, or are an inquirer, please do not ask to attend the Saturday class. We are deliberately keeping the two groups separate. Catechumens may get lost in the more theological class. Adult Orthodox or inquirers might ask questions in the catechumen class that could pull the class away from its purpose of being an introduction to Orthodoxy.

These two classes will allow our mission parish to continue to grow in the strength, peace, and love of the Lord.

After some time in the Roman Catholic Church, I never felt at peace by some of the legalistic approach to how some things are done. Furthermore, I cannot agree with the infalibility of the Pope. I never knew about the Orhodox Church when I was wanting to seek out how to live, worship and honor God the way Jeshua(Jesus) did but without becoming Jewish(although I did attend a couple of Synagogues). After much studying the differences, I KNOW within my soul that the Orthodox Church, is truly THE CHURCH, and has maintained the correct teachings of The Church. I gave up saying the “Hail Marys” and have slowly, in small ways, already begun to become an Orthodox Christian by adding The Jesus Prayer to my life–there is great fulfillment AND PEACE NOW! I would like to attend the Catechumenate class with the hopes of one day allowed to join the Orthodox Church.

Thank you, Brandon for your comment. We have catechumenate classes on Saturday afternoons, before Vespers. Looking forward to seeing you.
